SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Erik Tjarnberg of East Tennessee State University men's golf team earned Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday. 

Tjarnberg won the Highlands Invitational with a 202, 14-under-par finish that allowed him to earn his first collegiate victory in just his second start. The freshman had six birdies and an eagle to shoot a seven-under 65 in his final round. 

The tournament title for the Buccaneers came down to Tjarnberg's 18th hole, in which he made an eagle on the 573-yard par five to lift East Tennessee State to its 21-under-par first-place finish, one stroke ahead of the 20-under second-place Wake Forest. 

His 202 54-hole total is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in program history, with his 65 tying for the fourth-lowest 18-hole score in program history.

This season, Tjarnberg averages 69.33 strokes per round, with each of his six rounds played counting for the team's totals.
