CHICAGO, Ill. - East Tennessee State University men's golf team and
Erik Tjarnberg sit in first place after the first and second rounds of the Highlands Invitational presented by Turtleson on Monday at Chicago Highlands.
East Tennessee State is on top of the leaderboard at 15 under par with a first round of 277 and a second round of 284. Its 561 total is six strokes ahead of second-place Eastern Michigan and 14 strokes ahead of third-place Wake Forest.
Tjarnberg is in first place overall after his first round two under 70 and second round five under 67 give him a seven-under-par 137 total through 36 holes. The freshman carded three birdies and an eagle in the first round and five birdies and one eagle in his second round to sit in first place by one stroke.
Veigar Heidarsson is in third place after a first round two under 70 and a second round three under 69 for a five under 139 36-hole score. Heidarsson had five birdies in his first round and went bogey-free in his second round with three birdies.
Next on the leaderboard for the Buccaneers is
Gavin Tiernan, after a first-round three-under 69 and a second-round three-over gives him an even-par 144 total through the first 36 holes. Tiernan carded five birdies on the day to sit in a tie for 14th place.
Richard Saunders is up next, sitting in a tie for 20th place after a first round four under par 68 and a second round five over 77 for a one over par 145.
Rounding out the Bucs' lineup is
Oli Blackadder after a first round three over 75 and a second round one over 73 gave him a four over par 148. The sophomore sits in a tie for 38th place.
Playing individually, Mikkel Tingstead Blum sits in a tie for 42nd place after a first round three over 75 and a second round two over 74 give him a five over par 149 total through 36 holes.
Also competing as an individual,
Theophile Lebrun had a first round seven over par 79 and a second round two over 74 for a nine over par 153 finish through the first 36 holes of play.
Indiana, Maryland, and Charleston's rounds were suspended due to darkness. The Highlands Invitational continues tomorrow at the conclusion of the second round.
