RADFORD, Va. (April 7, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team dropped a midweek game at Radford on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 4-3. With Tuesday's loss, the Bucs move to 21-9 on the season.
Four of ETSU's seven hits in the contest came from its number four and five hitters in
Jamie Palmese and
Tyler Fetterman with both players finishing with two hits a piece.
Henry Ferguson extended his reached base streak to 30 games with a double, which was the lone extra base hit for the Bucs.
Luke Matlock and
Ty Galusky also tallied singles in the contest for ETSU.
Overall, five pitchers saw action for ETSU on the day.
Derek McCarley started the game for the Bucs and allowed one run on three hits.
Andrew Cotten took the loss after throwing two innings and allowing a run on two hits.
Stratton Scott had the best outing for a Buccaneer pitcher on Tuesday tossing 2.2 shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Radford gained an early lead on the Bucs with single runs in each of the first two innings. ETSU would tie the game in the top of the third. Matlock and Galusky both singled ahead of
Matt Evans, who worked a walk. With the bases loaded and nobody out,
Nate Conner drove in ETSU's first run of the day with a sacrifice fly before
Tristan Curless tied the game at two with an RBI groundout.
The Highlanders rebuilt their lead out to two runs over the next couple of frames. The Buccaneers closed the gap to a run in the eighth. Ferguson got the rally started with a leadoff double. On a flyout by Palmese, Ferguson tagged up and went to third. Fetterman then drove Ferguson in with an infield single to make it a 4-3 game going to the bottom of the eighth.
After Scott wrapped up his appearance with another scoreless inning in the bottom half of the eighth, it was an one-run game headed to the ninth. With three outs to play with, Radford turned the ball over to Hunter Howard. Howard retired the bottom third of the ETSU lineup in order to pick up the save and seal the 4-3 victory for the Highlanders.
The Bucs will return to action on Friday when they begin a three-game series at Belmont. First pitch between the Bucs and Bruins is set for 5 p.m. eastern time Friday in Nashville.
