JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 23, 2026) – The ETSU football team officially announced coaching staff updates on Friday. Overall, three new full-time staff members joined Head Coach
Will Healy's staff and two coaches from last season had their roles adjusted.
First,
Brian Blackmon, who was ETSU's Assistant Head Coach and Tight Ends Coach last season, has been named the team's new offensive coordinator. Blackmon, who will still coach the Buccaneer tight ends, will inherit an offense that broke single season program records in first downs, completions, completion percentage, passing yards, passing yards per game, and yards per game. Defensively,
Chad Staggs will remain the Defensive Coordinator and will now coach the safeties as well.
The first new coach on the staff is wide receivers coach
Shaedon Meadors. Meadors joins ETSU's staff after spending the last two seasons at SoCon rival Mercer. He spent two seasons as the Bears' tight ends coach. He helped mentor that group to 67 combined catches, while aiding in Mercer's running game, which averaged 167.0 yards per game across 26 games. Prior to his move to Macon, Meadors spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach at Wingate and three seasons as an assistant coach at Clover High School in South Carolina. Meadors is a 2017 graduate of Appalachian State. He played wide receiver for the Mountaineers and finished his time in Boone with 82 catches for 1,442 yards, and eight touchdowns. Meadors then played one season at Illinois in 2018 and earned a master's degree in sports management.
Next up is ETSU's new quarterback coach
Neal Posey. Posey comes to Johnson City after spending the last two seasons as an offensive analyst at UCF (2024) and at Purdue (2025). Prior to those stints, Posey coached at the high school level for over a decade. First, he was an assistant at Trinity Presbyterian School where coached the wide receivers (2013) and quarterbacks (2014). Following his stop at Trinity, Posey coached at Saint James School in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the team's offensive coordinator from 2015 until February 2023. Posey, who helped Saint James win a State Championship in 2022, was elevated to Head Coach in early 2023. In his lone season, he went 11-3 and won a regional championship. He also finished as a semi-finalist in the state tournament that season.
