CULLOWHEE, N.C. (March 22, 2025) – East Tennessee State University softball lost both games of its first SoCon series on Saturday, 6-1 and 11-0 to Western Carolina.
Senior infielder
Cameron Young went 4-for-5 on the day with a pair of walks, reaching six times in total. The rest of the Buccaneers combined to reach base ten times across the two games.
In the opener, WCU scored one run in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk and extended its lead to 2-0 on a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. From there, an ETSU error allowed the Catamounts to add four more runs in the third.
The Bucs got their lone run of the day in the seventh inning on a sac fly from senior
Sara Muir that scored sophomore
Tiare Rieger, but fell 6-1 in the conference opener.
In the second game, the ETSU bats struggled, as the Bucs strung just five hits together, struck out eight times and didn't draw a walk.
In the circle, ETSU got through the first inning before the Catamount offense posted a five-run second inning. Western Carolina then added three in the third and fourth innings, hitting three home runs and not slowing down en route to an 11-0 win.
The Bucs will try to avoid the series sweep at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
