Bucs cruise past Siena, 10-0, in seven innings

ETSU’s win streak grows to four with Friday’s victory

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2025) – The ETSU baseball team continued to play extremely well at home as it defeated Siena by a score of 10-0 in seven innings on Friday afternoon. Friday's win improves ETSU to 7-2 overall this season, 7-1 at home and 31-6 in games played at Thomas Stadium since the beginning of last season.

ETSU's offense, defense and pitching continues to fare well in 2025. Eight of the nine Bucs that started the game recorded at least one hit, the team did not commit an error in the field and the tandem of Landon Crumbley and Andrew Cotton combined for team's first shutout this season.

Offensively, the Bucs continue to put pressure on opposing pitching staffs with their power and speed. ETSU slugged three home runs in the victory. Grant Gallagher hit two of them to bring his team-leading total to six through nine games. Lenny Montesano launched ETSU's third long ball of the game, which marked the second straight game that he tallied a homer. On the basepaths, Jamie Palmese, Cody Miller and Gallagher all swiped bases to bring the team's total to 22 this season. In perspective, ETSU stole 57 bases in all of 2024.

Crumbley made his first start of the season on Friday and fared well. He tossed a career-high six shutout innings and held the Saint offense to two hits and struck out five. Crumbley, who notched his first win as a Buc on Friday, was followed by Andrew Cotten and he struck out two in a shutout seventh inning.

ETSU scored first for the eighth time in nine games with a run in the first. The Bucs have now outscored opponents 16-0 in the opening inning this season. After the first run of the game, Gallagher (twice) and Montesano both slammed solo home runs to grow ETSU's lead to four heading to the fifth. An RBI single from Miller brought home yet another run in the fifth before the Bucs blew it open in the sixth. Will Smoot got things rolling with a two-run double then an error by Siena was followed by back-to-back bases-loaded walks to get the lead to 10 runs.

The 10 runs of support were more than enough for Crumbley and Cotten. ETSU turned two key double plays behind their pitchers in the win and Siena had just two runners get into scoring position on the day.

ETSU will be back in action on Saturday with two more games. The Bucs will begin the day with a matchup against Binghamton with a rematch against Siena to follow immediately after. First pitch between the Bucs and Bearcats is set for Noon from Thomas Stadium.
