Palmese homers twice in ETSU’s 12-3 win over Appalachian State

ETSU grows its win streak to three with Tuesday’s victory

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2025) – Sophomore Jamie Palmese slugged a pair of home runs to help power the ETSU baseball team to a 12-3 win over Appalachian State on Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Stadium. With Tuesday's victory, the Bucs have now won three games in a row and improve to 6-2 on the season.

For Palmese it was not only his first career multi-home run game, but it also brought his 2025 home run total to four passing his freshman total of three. Lenny Montesano slugged his first home run in a Buccaneer uniform and added another base hit to join a group of five ETSU players that picked up two or more hits in the win. JD Yakubinis built upon his three-hit day on Sunday with two more on Tuesday in a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored and one RBI. The Bucs also received outstanding production at the bottom of their batting order as Gabe Juarez (3-for-4, runs scored, RBI) and Axel Melendez (2-for-4, two RBI) combined to go 5-for-8 with three RBI from the eight and nine spots in ETSU's lineup.

On the mound, the Bucs kept Appalachian State's offense quiet. Tristan Curless made his second straight midweek start and he pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Sophomore Brady Frederick relieved Curless and pitched well tossing 2.2 innings and set a new career-high with five strikeouts. Frederick, who was credited with his first collegiate win, was followed by Tate Jones and Carter Oliff who combined for three shutout innings to close out the win.

The Buccaneer offense was consistent throughout Tuesday's win. Single runs in the first and second inning were followed by a big four-run fourth inning punctuated by the first of Palmese's two home runs. ETSU also tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth before Palmese and Montesano slugged a pair of two-run home runs to put the game out of reach in the eighth inning.

ETSU will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Siena at Thomas Stadium. First pitch for that contest is set for 4 p.m.
