The Buccaneers are looking to bounce back after opening the season 1-4. The Blue & Gold were swept by UMass and dropped its lone contest against Campbell, but a 5-3 win over Kent State brought a weekend split with the Golden Flashes.
A young quartet of pitchers showed promise for ETSU at Campbell's tournament. Freshman
Eden Muncy threw 11.1 innings, the most of any Buc, while sophomore
Gabrielle Fowler posted a 1.00 ERA through seven innings of work. Sophomore
Cameron Lauretta collected the win over Kent State, while freshman
Catlin Pennington earned the save.
At the plate, senior infielder and SoCon preseason player of the year
Cameron Young showed why she received the honor from the league's coaches, hitting .533 with a 1.112 OPS. Junior Grand Canyon transfer
Leinani Lutu hit ETSU's first home run of the year and totaled five RBI on the weekend; and senior
Sara Muir hit .462 with four RBI.
Maine will open the season at the Pinnacle PC Invitational under the direction of new head coach Kimberly Stiles. The Black Bears will look to turn the page after going 5-41 in 2024. Alysen Rieth, Kaly Thomas and Ava Zettlemoyer all return in the circle, and Maine brings back the bats of Kyli Hernandez and Gabby Papushka.
Presbyterian enters its second home tournament after opening the season 2-3. The Blue Hose swept Morehead State, but dropped games against George Washington and Northern Kentucky, the latter of which earned the weekend sweep.
Blair Darby homered twice for PC in its opening weekend, and Kasey Wolfe hit .467 with a team high four RBI. Wolfe also shouldered the load in the circle, throwing 11 innings with a team best 4.91 ERA, but Payton Duncan and Grace Kelly collected the two wins for Presbyterian.
