SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 2, 2024) – ETSU women's tennis player
Sofia Markova repeated as the Southern Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday. Markova, who earned the same honor last Tuesday, and the rest of the Bucs have accounted for seven Player of the Week awards this spring.
Markova led the Bucs to a pair of wins over No. 57 VCU (4-3) and Xavier (4-1) last week. Markova won both of her singles matches along with both of her doubles matches with partner
Alessandra Caceres. She won her singles matches by scores of 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 6-0 and 6-2, 7-6 (7-1). In doubles, Markova and Caceres knocked off VCU nationally-ranked tandem of Emma Valletta and Yelizaveta Karlova who were ranked No. 78 in the country by a score of 7-6 (7-4). They also won a 6-2 contest on Sunday vs. Xavier.
On the season, Markova is 12-6 in singles action and 10-7 in doubles play with Caceres.
Markova and the rest of the Bucs will return to action on Friday when they host No. 46 Charlotte.
