GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 29, 2024) – UNC Greensboro scored in six different innings on its way to a 12-9 win over the ETSU baseball team on Friday night. With Friday's loss, the Buccaneers move to 16-9 overall and 2-3 in SoCon play.
Nick Iannantone continues to swing a hot bat for ETSU. Iannantone went 5-for-5 with three runs scored for the Bucs on Friday. It was not only career-high hit total for Iannantone but it is also the most hits in a game by a Buc since
Noah Webb had a five-hit game vs. Western Carolina in 2022.
Cameron Sisneros went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while
JD Yakubinis also drove in three runs in the contest.
Noah Gent also had a two-hit day, his sixth of the season, to round out the offensive leaders for ETSU.
Like it did in Thursday's series opener, ETSU struck first. Iananntone came around to score the first run of the game on a single from Sisneros to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead. ETSU would add two more runs before the Spartans got out of the first inning to make the score 3-0 Bucs. UNCG, however, grabbed the lead back with four runs in the bottom half of the first to put ETSU behind by a run, 4-3.
UNCG would gain some more breathing room with a pair of runs in the third to push its lead to three. ETSU got a run back in the fifth on another RBI single by Sisneros to close the gap to two. The Spartans would score two runs in the fifth and six innings to grow their lead to six runs heading to the final three innings.
ETSU put together its best offensive inning together in the seventh. Five singles along with a walk helped the Bucs score five runs in the frame and shrunk UNCG's advantage to a single run going to the bottom of the seventh.
The Spartans hit two solo home runs to answer the surge from the Buccaneers. ETSU got singles from Iannantone in the eighth and
Jackson Green in the ninth but could not bring them around to score as the Spartans finished off the 12-9 win over the Bucs.
ETSU and UNCG will wrap up their series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch for the series finale is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
