SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 26, 2024) – ETSU women's tennis player
Sofia Markova was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. It marks the first weekly award that Markova has earned this spring and the sixth for ETSU.
Markova, who was the SoCon's Player of the Month for January, led the charge for ETSU in wins over Mercer and Chattanooga last week. Markova went 2-0 in both singles and doubles action in the two matches. In singles, Markova won her matches 7-6, 6-3 and 6-3, 7-5. As for doubles, Markova teamed up with
Alessandra Caceres to win both of those contests by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
On the season, Markova is 10-6 in singles action and 8-7 in doubles play with Caceres.
Markova and the rest of the Bucs will return to action on Friday when they welcome VCU to Johnson City. First serve for that matchup is set for 1 p.m.
