ABOUT THE BUCS
  • ETSU erased a 15-point deficit to tie the score last Saturday at Chattanooga, but the Mocs ultimately came away with a 52-50 win. With Saturday's setback, the Bucs are 13-5 overall and 2-1 in SoCon play.
  • The duo of Nevaeh Brown and Kendall Folley both scored in double figures against the Mocs finishing with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Brown has now led the Bucs on the score sheet on seven occasions this season, which is the most on the team. Brown enters Thursday's action ranked in fifth in the SoCon averaging 13.1 points per game.
  • With two more blocks at Chattanooga on Saturday, Meghan Downing is up to 17 on the season, which ranks fourth in the SoCon. Downing has already passed her block total from her entire freshman season (14) in 2023-24.
  • During Coach Mock's tenure in Johnson City, the Bucs have avoided losing streaks. Over the past two seasons, ETSU has lost two or more games in a row twice and just once this season (at Miami, vs. Lipscomb).
  • Defense continues to be a strength for the Bucs. ETSU is currently ranked ninth in the country in scoring defense allowing 53.4 points per game.
  • Current ETSU players have fared well against Western Carolina in the past as six members of the roster have at least one game where they've scored 10 or more points in a game. Courtney Moore has three such performances during her ETSU career, while Brown has scored the most points in a game against WCU among current Bucs (21 – Feb. 25, 2023 – 90-84 double overtime ETSU win).
  • Moore needs to make just eight more 3-pointers to reach 150 for her ETSU career. Furthermore, she needs just 22 more triples to pull into a tie for the fifth-most 3-pointers made in program history with former Buc Jennifer Cooke (164).
  • In a game back on January 10, 1987, ETSU set the program record for the most assists in a game vs. Western Carolina with 33. The Bucs ultimately won that game by a score of 85-40.
ABOUT WESTERN CAROLINA
  • Western Carolina enters Thursday's matchup with the Bucs with a 5-14 overall record and a 0-4 mark in SoCon play.
  • A player to watch for the Catamounts is Chelsea Wooten. Wooten has made more 3-pointers (46) than any other player in the SoCon. She has also attempted the fourth-most 3-pointers (164) in Division I women's basketball this season.
  • WCU also has one of the top distributors in the league as Jada Burton ranks third in the SoCon in both assists (71) and assists per game (3.7).
  • The Catamounts are one of two Southern Conference teams to score 100 or more points in a game this season. WCU scored 101 in its season opener vs. Agnes Scott. Furman is the other squad to reach the century mark on the scoreboard netting 124 points against Bob Jones on December 6.
  • Thursday will be the 82nd all-time meeting between the Bucs and Catamounts with the first occurring in 1969. ETSU holds the historic edge winning 57 of the previous 81 meetings, including the last four. The Buccaneers have fared very well in Cullowhee recently as they have come away with the win in each of their last eight trips. The last time ETSU lost in Cullowhee was in 2013, 58-56.
UP NEXT
ETSU will continue its road swing through North Carolina on Saturday when it visits UNC Greensboro. Tip-off for that game is set for 1 p.m.
