Women's basketball wraps tournament run in SoCon semifinal

No. 2 Seed ETSU fell to No. 6 Seed Samford, 48-57

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - East Tennessee State women's basketball wraps action in the Southern Conference Tournament in the semifinals.  The No. 2 seed Bucs (18-13, 10-4 SoCon) fell to the No. 6 seed Samford Bulldogs (15-18, 6-8 SoCon), 48-57, on Friday afternoon.

NOTABLES
  • Daniela Lopez, the junior guard, led scoring efforts with 13 points from three made threes and five total field goals.  Lopez tacked on five rebounds, one assist and tied the game-high of two steals, recording a steal in each of the last four outings.
  • Sophomore guard Carmen Richardson led scoring from the free throw line after going 5-5 for a tied career-high of five made, and continued on to record 11 total points in the contest with three field goals.  Richardson also tallied five rebounds and one assist, with assists in the last 10 consecutive outings.  
  • Meghan Downing, the senior forward, led rebounding with seven total and registered two steals.
  • Graduate guard Anala Nelson was an all-around contributor with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
  • Paige Lyons, the senior guard, posted six points from two made threes, sinking multiple for the first time this season, with two steals and one assist.
  • ETSU outscored Samford 6-4 in points from turnovers, 14-12 in paint points and 7-5 in points from second chances.
  • The team totaled 48 points, 34 rebounds, six assists and eight steals.
