Women's basketball tops UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference Quarterfinal

McAmis and Richardson lead the Bucs to SoCon Semifinals

Box Score ASHEVILLE, N.C. - East Tennessee State women's basketball extended the win streak to six games in the Southern Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon.  The Bucs (18-12, 10-4 SoCon) upended the Spartans (14-16, 4-10 SoCon) 62-50 in Harrah's Cherokee Center.  

NOTABLES
  • ETSU defeated UNCG for the third time this season, marking the first time under head coach Brenda Mock Brown the Bucs have achieved the feat.  
  • The Bucs boasted 11 made threes in the victory, the first time in the 2025-26 schedule double-digit threes have been reached.  ETSU shot 50% from beyond the arc, the first time this season and just the second time through the last three seasons.
  • Emmah McAmis, the freshman guard, lit the fire for the Bucs in the first quarter, opening scoring with eight consecutive points from two made threes and a field goal.  McAmis continued on to tie her career-high of 11 points, with an impressive 3-3 in three point range, with four rebounds and two assists.  She's is the only individual to go 3-3 in made threes this season.  
  • Sophomore guard Carmen Richardson led scoring efforts with 14 points, marking her largest-scoring outing since the start of January.  Richardson tallied one assist and one steal and forced three of UNCG's five turnovers.  
  • Senior forward Meghan Downing collected four blocks in the outing, reaching four for the sixth time this season and extending her blocking streak to six contests.  Downing tacked on seven points, two assists and 10 rebounds, reaching double-digit rebounds for the 10th time this season.
  • Daniela Lopez was a top offensive and defensive contributor for the Bucs with 11 points and seven rebounds, adding on one assist and one steal.  The junior guard went 3-5 beyond the arc as the second member of the squad to reach three made threes.
  • Graduate guard Anala Nelson dished the team-high of three assists with three rebounds and four total points.
  • The team totaled 62 points, 38 rebounds, 10 assists, four steals and five blocks.  
GAME FLOW
Despite starting the first six minutes of action scoreless, ETSU battled back in the final minutes to a 14-14 opening frame with two made threes from McAmis and one apiece from Lopez and Richardson.  The Bucs opened second quarter scoring hot as Harper popped off with five points at the start.  Back-to-back made three from Hood secured the advantage in the first half, with ETSU putting up 18 total points in the second frame for a first half score of 32-26.  A dominate lead was secured in the third, as ETSU went up 49-38 on UNCG for the biggest advantage of the contest.  Six individuals put points on the board, led by Richardson with five and Nelson with four in the 17-point quarter.  ETSU maintained the advantage through the final minutes of the contest, defeating UNCG in scoring through all four quarters.  Downing and Lopez led scoring through the fourth with five points apiece for 10 combined of the 13 total.
