ETSU will return to action next weekend at the WKU Invitational

HIGH POINT, N.C. (Sept. 9, 2023) – The ETSU volleyball team fell in four sets to Davidson (20-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-12) in a neutral site match in High Point, N.C. on Saturday afternoon. With Saturday's loss, the Bucs are now 0-8 on the season. 

Stat Standouts – Brianna Cantrell (Appleton, Wis.) led the way for the Bucs on Saturday totaling a season-high 18 kills. Cantrell's 18 kills were just two shy of matching her career-high. Malgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszcz, Poland) picked up her third double-double of the season with a 31-assist and 13-dig effort. 

First Set – ETSU and Davidson were deadlocked at 12-12 midway through the first stanza. A 6-1 run put together by the Bucs swung the momentum and them a five-point lead, 18-13. Cantrell had an outstanding first set with eight kills, while Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) and Jenna Forster (Maryville, Tenn.) added four and three kills, respectively, to spark the Buc offense to a 25-20 win. 

Second Set – After being held to a .184 hitting percentage in the first set, Davidson's offense started to find its groove in the second. The Wildcats totaled 16 kills on 32 tries with six errors for a .312 attack percentage in the second. Davidson took a 7-6 lead after an ETSU attack error and never looked back on its way to a 25-15 win to even the match at a set a piece. 

Third Set – Davidson built a six-point lead at one juncture (19-13), but the Bucs trimmed the deficit down to three points (20-17) to force a Wildcat timeout. Davidson, however, reeled off five of the next seven points to pull in front of the Bucs, 25-19. 

Fourth Set – The Wildcat offense kept things rolling in the fourth stanza as well. Davidson attacked at a match-high .429 clip with 15 kills to finish off the match with a 25-12 set win. 

Up Next – ETSU will return to action on Sept. 15-16 for the WKU Invitational. The Bucs will face Western Michigan and Western Kentucky on Friday before wrapping up the weekend with a tilt against Ball State on Saturday.
