PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - East Tennessee State University women's golf team is in third place after an opening-round four-under-par 280 in the first round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf Club.
East Tennessee State is two strokes ahead of fourth-place Austin Peay, Old Dominion, Troy, and Memphis and two strokes behind second-place Campbell. They are seven strokes behind the current leaders in High Point.
Arisa Piyamanit led the way for the Buccaneers in round one with a two-under par 69. The sophomore carded four birdies, three on the back nine, to sit in a tie for ninth place.
Aliezah Robinson and
McKenzie Hauk both fired a one-under 70 to sit in a tie for 16th place following the first round of play. Robinson had five birdies as Hauk carded four.
Sophia Gambini sits in a tie for 24th place after her first-round even-par 70. The sophomore carded an eagle on the par-five eighth hole, with birdies on the seventh and 17th holes.
Francisca Moritz rounded out the Bucs' lineup with a four-over-par 75 to sit in a tie for 71st place.
Competing as an individual,
Elzbieta Aldana Leonardo fired an opening-round one-under-par 71 to sit in a tie for 16th place.
The Golfweek Fall Challenge continues tomorrow with tee times beginning at 9:20 for the Bucs. ETSU is paired with High Point, Campbell, and Old Dominion.
