Bucs close out their road schedule with a 9-5 win at Wofford

ETSU snaps four-game skid with Sunday’s victory

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 10, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team closed out its road schedule with a 9-5 win at Wofford on Sunday afternoon. The victory improves ETSU's record to 30-19 overall and 10-8 in conference play. Furthermore, the Bucs have now won 30 or more games for three straight seasons for the first time since 1980-82.

The Bucs pounded out 13 hits in the win, and four players had multi-hit efforts. Nate Conner (3-for-5, two runs scored, one RBI) and Andrew Palmer (3-for-4, one RBI, one run scored) led the charge with three hits a piece. Mason Ault collected two hits and paced ETSU with three RBI. Axel Melendez also went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI to help pace the Bucs' offense.

ETSU used just three pitchers on Sunday. Cooper Jones started and threw the first 5.1 innings. Jones, who earned his fourth win of the season, allowed two runs on six hits, one walk, and struck out five Wofford hitters. Reid Brosnan (3.1 innings) and Cody Carwile (0.1 innings) followed Jones out of ETSU's bullpen and secured the team's 30th win of the season.

After two scoreless innings by both starting pitchers to begin the game, ETSU broke through in the third. Six of the first seven hitters in the inning reached base in a frame that saw the Bucs score five runs on five hits to gain the first lead of the game, 5-0. RBI singles by Tristan Curless, Melendez, Palmer, and Ault along with a RBI groundout by Ian Guanzon fueled the five-run third.

Logan Timblin launched solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to close the gap a bit for the Terriers. Conner started the sixth with a double and worked his way around the bases before scoring on a wild pitch to make the score 6-2 after six innings.

The Bucs' offense started clicking again in the seventh. Ault delivered a two-run single to score Melendez and Guanzon before Conner brought Ault in to score to make the score 9-2.

Wofford pushed across three runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Carwile came in to retire the final hitter to clinch the victory for ETSU.

The Buccaneers will return to action on Thursday when they begin at three-game series against Mercer from Thomas Stadium. First pitch for game one of the series is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
