CULLOWHEE, N.C. (Apr. 24, 2026) - Nine Buccaneers claimed podium finishes on the lone day of the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee on Friday. The meet was compressed into a single day due to weather.
For the women,
Micailah Cook continued her strong run of form with a 100m sprint time of 11.76 seconds, good for second in the race. Cook's time would be a season best for all but two SoCon runners including herself.
Other podium finishes included
Sophia Edwards in the pole vault at 3.35m,
Meg Lance running the 1500m in a season best 4:40.94, and
Patty Kilkelly running the 400m hurdles in a personal best 1:02.75, all of which were good for second place honors. Kilkelly's race time puts her second on the SoCon leaderboard for 2026.
Elsewhere,
Bella Novak set a personal best in the shot put at 11.40m, and
Sophie Beach (4:42.47) and
Kendall Johnson (4:44.91) both set personal bests in the 1500m run.
On the men's side,
Ben Smith set the top mark in the SoCon in the long jump this season at 7.34m, finishing second on Friday.
Milo Willets set a personal best in the 400m hurdles at 54.27 seconds to finish third and jump to third in the event on the SoCon season leaderboard. Robbie Slaughter set a personal best in the pole vault by clearing 4.45m to jump into the SoCon's top five, and
Hayden Waleski ran the 800m in a personal best 1:52.09 for third in that event.
Ben Kenner set the second-fastest time in the 3000m steeplechase this season at 9:42.88, finishing second in the event and trailing only teammate Nathan Hillis' SoCon-leading mark in 2026.
