JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 2, 2026) – The ETSU women's tennis team will open the final month of the regular season with a pair of home matches this week against Samford on Friday and No. 29 Charlotte on Saturday. Friday's match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., while Saturday's is slated for a 2 p.m. first serve.
The Buccaneers got back into the win column last week with a pair of road wins over conference rivals Mercer (5-2) and Chattanooga (7-0). The victories push ETSU's overall record to 12-5 on the season and a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. Entering the month of April, the Bucs are 65-31 (.677 winning percentage) in singles and 25-21 (.543 winning percentage) in doubles this spring.
Audelie Lesauvage has the most singles wins for the Bucs with 14, while freshman
Mariangel Estrella not far behind with 13. Estrella is bringing a 13-match singles winning streak into this week's action.
Samford is one of four Southern Conference teams with 10 or more wins this spring as it enters the week with a record of 10-8 overall. The Bulldogs won their first two conference matches of the season against Mercer and Western Carolina but dropped their last two against Wofford and Furman. Cathy Cardona-Carballosa has led the charge with 11 singles victories in 2026, which accounts for a quarter of the team's total this season.
Charlotte has had a stellar season in 2026 with an overall record of 17-3. The 49ers have rattled off 12 wins in a row with their last setback coming on February 14 at No. 23 South Carolina. The other two losses for Charlotte have been against No. 3 North Carolina and Clemson by identical 4-0 final scores.
ETSU and Samford have met a total of 15 times since both teams were in the SoCon starting in 2015. Samford won both meetings during that first season, but the Bucs have reeled off 13 straight wins over the Bulldogs since then. ETSU tallied a pair of wins over the Bulldogs last year by scores of 6-1 and 4-0 with the second coming in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament. The all-time series between Charlotte and ETSU has been competitive with the 49ers holding the slight edge winning four of the seven matchups. Charlotte has won the last three over the Bucs with ETSU's last victory coming in 2022.
