Bucs battle but fall to No. 5 Georgia, 12-10

Tristan Curless homers twice and drives in six to lead ETSU

ATHENS, Ga. (April 14, 2026) – Behind a pair of three-run home runs by Tristan Curless, the ETSU baseball team pushed No. 5 Georgia on Tuesday afternoon before ultimately falling to the Bulldogs by a score of 12-10. Tuesday's loss moves ETSU's record to 23-11.

As mentioned earlier, Curless hit a pair of three-run home runs and finished the day going 3-for-5. With his stellar day, Curless has now hit 13 home runs and 50 RBI in just 34 games this season. Tyler Fetterman hit his second home run of the season, while Henry Ferguson joined Curless with a multi-hit effort against the Bulldogs finishing the day 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Those pair of hits extend Ferguson's on-base streak to 34 games to start the 2026 campaign.

On the mound, the Buccaneers used nine pitchers on Tuesday. Cody Carwile had tossed 1.1 shutout innings with three of the four outs coming on strikeouts. Reilly Byers and Jack Vest also logged scoreless outings on the day for the Bucs.

The Bucs struck first in Tuesday's matchup with Georgia. Ferguson singled and worked his way around the bases to score on a wild pitch to give ETSU an 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs were quick to answer that run with a crooked number in the bottom of the first. Georgia sent 10 batters to the plate and scored half of them to gain its first lead of the contest, 5-1.

ETSU got two of those runs back in the top of the second. Infield singles by Ian Guanzon and Luke Matlock were hit in the right spot and chased home those two runs for the Bucs. Over the next couple of innings, the Bulldogs pushed their advantage back out to four thanks to a ground-rule double and a sacrifice fly to make the score 7-3 Georgia entering the middle innings.

After being held scoreless in the third and fourth, the Bucs received a jolt of momentum in the fifth as Curless connected on his first home run of the game to suddenly bring the Bucs back within a run, 7-6. An RBI single and a three-run home run by Henry Allen made it an 11-6 game in favor of Georgia after five innings.

A second three-run blast by Curless in the sixth made it a two-run game, 11-9.

Georgia slugged a solo home run in the seventh and Fetterman answered that solo shot with one of his own in the top of the ninth. Following Fetterman's solo home run to start the ninth, the next three ETSU hitters were retired to close out the 12-10 win for Georgia.

ETSU will return home this weekend when it hosts The Citadel for a three-game series. The series against the Bulldogs is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m. on Friday from Thomas Stadium.
