JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 10, 2026) – As the case has been every season since 2021, the ETSU women's tennis team and Furman will match up in the final regular season match to decide who wins the SoCon Regular Season Championship. This season's match between the Bucs and Paladins is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday from Johnson City.
ETSU will enter Saturday's clash with the Paladins with a 13-6 overall record and 6-0 mark in SoCon action. As the 6-0 record would indicate, the Bucs have been dominant against fellow conference schools this spring. In singles, the Bucs are 32-4 to go along with a 11-7 mark in doubles. Saturday's match will be the fourth match against a nationally-ranked team for ETSU this season. The Bucs are 1-2 in the previous three with a win over No. 69 Liberty and losses to No. 11 NC State and No. 29 Charlotte.
Furman, meanwhile, currently sits at No. 71 in the ITA National Team Rankings. The Paladins are 14-4 overall and like the Bucs have a 6-0 mark in league play. Since a 4-1 loss to Elon on March 14, Furman has reeled off six straight wins, including four shutouts. Furman has one of the most unique rosters in the country as six of its seven players are true freshmen.
Historically, the Paladins have won 39 of the previous 43 matches against ETSU. Three of those four wins for the Bucs have come since 2023. Two of those wins clinched SoCon Tournament Titles for ETSU, while the final one clinched the 2024 SoCon Regular Season Championship for the Blue and Gold.
