Women’s Tennis prepares for matches against No. 69 Liberty and Memphis

ETSU looks to extend its winning streak this weekend in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (March 5, 2026) – Owners of a six-match winning streak, the ETSU women's tennis team will return to action this weekend with a pair of matches in Virginia against No. 69 Liberty and Memphis. ETSU will face Liberty at 2 p.m. on Friday before closing the trip with a neutral site tilt against the Tigers at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

As mentioned previously, the Bucs have won six matches in a row. ETSU, which started the season 1-2, has rebounded with non-conference wins over Tusculum, Murray State, Lipscomb, and Virginia Tech. The Blue and Gold have also begun their SoCon schedule with a pair of wins over Western Carolina and UNC Greensboro. With its 7-2 record overall, the Bucs have the second-highest winning percentage in the SoCon this season behind only Chattanooga, which currently sits at 9-1.

Liberty enters this weekend's action with an 8-3 record, which includes a perfect 5-0 mark at home. The Lady Flames moved up one spot in the ITA National Team Rankings to No. 69 after a pair of victories against Marshall and ECU last week.

The Tigers will bring a 2-9 record with them to Lynchburg. The two wins for the Tigers have been recently as they downed Southeast Missouri State (4-0) and then knocked off then-No. 52 Columbia by a score of 4-3. Of the Tigers' 11 matches so far this spring, five have been against programs that were nationally-ranked at the time of the contest.

There is not a ton of previous history for the Bucs against either Liberty or Memphis. ETSU is 5-1 all-time against Liberty with the last of those clashes coming in 2019 that the Bucs won 4-0. Memphis holds the edge historically against the Bucs winning three of the five matchups with the last of those coming in 2018 in Knoxville. ETSU's last win over the Tigers came in 2001 by a score of 5-2.
