Track & Field Completes Second Week of Outdoor Season

SoCon track contenders set marks in Raleigh; Winchester takes silver in Bristol

RALEIGH, N.C. (Mar. 28, 2026) - The ETSU track & field teams completed week two of the outdoor season with split squads at NC State's Raleigh Relays and the King University Invitational on Saturday.

In a field crowded with power conference competition, Micailah Cook held her own and positioned herself as a contender yet again in the 200m and 400m. Running the 400m for the first time this outdoor season, she won her section and finished 19th overall with a 55.11 second race time, the best mark in the SoCon to date by more than six-tenths of a second. While her 200m time of 24.59 seconds failed to surpass her mark at Charlotte last week, it would be the second-fastest time by a SoCon runner this season other than Cook herself and was good enough to finish 31st.

Deena Ludtke set the top time for a SoCon runner this season in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:44.52, and Meg Lance posted the fourth-best time in the women's 800m at 2:16.46. Ben Smith was the only entry to compete for the men, setting the SoCon's third-fastest time this season in the 200m sprint at 21.55 seconds and the eighth-best mark in the long jump with 6.42m.

In Bristol at the King University Invitational, freshman Maddie Winchester took silver in the hammer throw with a 42.89m best mark, the seventh-best toss in the SoCon this season. Bella Novak finished 13th with a 32.51m throw, and Ijeoma Chukwu-Amaechi was 15th at 28.36m. In the men's discus, Jack Wilson finished 10th with a 38.43m throw, and Grant Winegar was 18th with a 35.05m throw.

The Bucs return to competition next week with the full squad at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, North Carolina, beginning Thursday, April 2.
