GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 21, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team bounced back from Friday's loss with an 8-2 victory on the road at UNC Greensboro on Saturday afternoon. The win boosts ETSU's overall record to 15-6 and evens its mark in conference play at 1-1.
Seven of ETSU's 10 hits in the game came from three players in
Jamie Palmese (3-for-5, two runs scored),
Ty Galusky (2-for-5, one RBI and a run scored), and
Tristan Curless (2-for-4, one RBI and a run scored).
Luke Matlock launched ETSU's lone home run in the win, which was his third of the season.
Nate Conner reached base three times with a double and a pair of walks and
Axel Melendez had a single and drove in a run as well to help fuel Bucs' offense.
ETSU used just two pitchers to even the series at a game a piece on Saturday.
Michael Harpster started and worked the first five innings. Harpster, who picked up his third win of the season on Saturday, worked around five hits and a pair of walks to along with four strikeouts in his outing.
Evan Rolison followed Harpster and shut down the Spartan offense the rest of the way. Rolison closed the game with four perfect innings against UNCG with three strikeouts. For his efforts, Rolison earned his first save in an ETSU uniform.
The Buccaneer offense got things going in the top of the first inning on Saturday. A trio of singles and a walk pushed across one run for ETSU as a single from Galusky brought Curless in to score the game's first run. The Buccaneers added two more runs in the second. Conner knocked in Palmese with a ground ball to make the score before Curless drove in
Ian Guanzon to push ETSU's advantage to three heading to the bottom of the second inning.
Greensboro cut ETSU's lead to a run thanks to runs in the second and third. Following the second run in the third, Harpster kept the Spartans' offense quiet after that only allowing a single in his final two innings on the mound on Saturday.
ETSU broke the game open in the top of the sixth. The Bucs sent 10 players to the plate and scored five runs on three hits in the frame. The big blow came off the bat of Matlock with a three-run home run.
The six-run cushion was more than enough for Rolison. As mentioned previously, Rolison did not allow a baserunner in his four innings on the mound on Saturday and in doing so clinched the win for the Bucs.
The rubber match of this weekend's series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. from Greensboro. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
