JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team scored 11 runs across the final two innings in Sunday's series finale against Quinnipiac on its way to a 16-5 win in eight innings at Thomas Stadium. Sunday's win clinches the third consecutive series sweep for the Bucs and boosts ETSU's overall record to 9-2 this spring.
Every Buccaneer that took an at-bat on Sunday collected at least one hit. Overall, ETSU totaled 18 hits in the contest. The top of ETSU's order was especially productive as the top five hitters combined for 11 hits in 23 at-bats (.478 average) with 13 RBI and seven runs scored.
Tristan Curless finished the day a triple shy of the cycle with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored.
Griffin Sorrow provided a spark from the ninth spot in the batting order collecting three hits and scoring four runs as well. ETSU's double play duo of
Ian Guanzon and
Henry Ferguson also put up big numbers at the plate with each Buc notching a pair of hits and driving in four runs.
On the mound, the Bucs had a bullpen day on Sunday with eight different pitchers seeing action.
Thomas Costarelli,
Derek McCarley,
Cooper Jones, and Curless all threw scoreless innings against the Bobcats.
Stratton Scott picked up his first collegiate win after tossing 1.1 innings on an efficient 12 pitches thrown.
Despite the final score, Quinnipiac struck first on Sunday with three runs in the first inning. ETSU, however, battled back with runs in the third and fourth before pulling out in front of the Bobcats with two runs in the fifth thanks to run-scoring hits from
Nate Conner and Curless.
The two teams traded runs over the next few frames, and the score was deadlocked at five at the seventh-inning stretch. ETSU's offense woke up in a major way in the bottom of the seventh sending 12 hitters to the plate and scoring eight runs. Ferguson knocked in four of those eight runs on a pair of singles in the big inning for the Bucs, while
Ty Galusky (two), Curless and Guanzon also knocked in runs in the stanza.
Curless made his first pitching appearance of the season in the eighth and struck out the side. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bucs strung together three doubles and a single to chase home three runs and finish off the sweep of the Bobcats, 16-5.
The Bucs will begin a four-game road swing on Tuesday when they visit nationally ranked Tennessee. First pitch between the Bucs and Vols is set for 4 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
