JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2026) – Despite trailing for most of the game, the ETSU baseball team mounted a late rally and ultimately walked off Qunnipiac on Saturday in 10 innings by a score of 4-3. Saturday's victory boosts ETSU's record to 8-2 on the season.
Jamie Palmese drove in the winning run for ETSU in the tenth inning.
Mason Ault tied the game with an RBI single in the eighth.
Nate Conner and
Axel Melendez both had two hits in the win as well to round out the offensive leaders for the Bucs.
Michael Harpster started Saturday's game for ETSU and tossed six innings. Harpster allowed three runs on five hits and struck out six against the Bobcats. ETSU's two relievers
Reid Brosnan and
Andrew Cotten combined for 3.2 shutout innings with four strikeouts and two hits allowed. Cotten picked up his second win of the season to improve to 2-0.
Both pitching staffs kept the opposing lineup in check for most of the contest. Quinnipiac broke through with a pair of runs in the fifth. The Bobcats then added another run with an RBI single to extend their lead to three after six innings of play.
ETSU broke through in the eighth. A walk and two singles loaded the bases with nobody out.
Tyler Fetterman drove in the Bucs' first run of the day on a sacrifice fly.
Henry Ferguson got the Bucs within one on an RBI groundout and then Ault tied the game with a single.
Following a scoreless ninth inning, Quinnipiac got two runners reach base in the tenth, but Cotten got out of the jam. In ETSU's half of the inning, Fetterman and Ferguson both worked walks with one out in the frame. Palmese then drove in the winning run with a single to seal the 4-3 victory for ETSU.
The Bucs will go for the sweep of the Bobcats tomorrow afternoon in the series finale. First pitch between the Bucs and Bobcats is set for 1 p.m. from Thomas Stadium.
