JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2026) – Riding a four-match winning streak, the ETSU women's tennis team will look to keep things rolling as it enters Southern Conference play this week with matches against Western Carolina and UNC Greensboro. ETSU will host Western Carolina on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the ETSU mini dome before traveling to UNC Greensboro on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.
As mentioned earlier, the Bucs are currently on a four-match winning streak. ETSU, which is 5-3 overall this spring, is coming off an exciting comeback win on the road at Virginia Tech on Sunday, 4-3. It was ETSU's second-ever win against the Hokies. With the Bucs turning its attention to SoCon play, they hope they can continue their recent success against league opponents. Since rejoining the SoCon for the 2015 season, the Bucs have had two or fewer losses in league play every season.
Western Carolina enters Tuesday's clash with the Bucs with a 1-6 record this spring. WCU's lone victory came against Young Harris back on February 10 by a score of 5-2. Mariya Dobreva has been the Catamounts' top player in 2026 with a 5-2 record in singles. Dobreva has also paired with Mia Miranda to account for three of WCU's four wins in doubles this spring.
UNC Greensboro is still in search of its first win of 2026 after beginning the season with a 0-7 record. UNCG has dropped 16 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
ETSU has lengthy winning streaks against both WCU and UNCG. The Bucs have won 20 straight matches against Western Carolina and 17 straight against the Spartans. WCU's last win over the Bucs came in 2002, while UNCG last came away with a win against ETSU in 2003.
