The Buccaneers return to action after a 1-1 draw at Presbyterian last Tuesday. Ryan Suckling scored on a rebound off his own penalty kick in the 49th minute, but ETSU couldn't keep the Blue Hose out in a game that featured 33 shots and 14 shots on goal between the two squads. Suckling is the fifth different goal scorer for the Bucs this season. The draw in Clinton is ETSU's third straight, a program record streak of ties.
The Hokies are still looking for their first win of September. They scored a win in the season opener against then-#3 Ohio State and followed that up with a win over Canisius on August 24, but are 0-2-3 since. They have played a daunting schedule, including games at then-#2 Marshall on August 29 and #3 Stanford on September 21. Sophomore Alex Perez leads the team with two goals after scoring three in his freshman year.
This is the sixth meeting between ETSU and Virginia Tech in men's soccer, and the third in Johnson City. The Bucs are 1-3-1 against the Hokies all-time, with the only win coming on September 20, 2011, at Summers-Taylor Stadium. David Geno scored in the 77th minute to lift then-#22 ETSU to a famous win.
