After an 0-4 start, the Bucs have had a pair of near misses seeking their first win of 2025, with a frenzied Radford comeback to salvage a 2-2 draw in Johnson City on September 10 and a1-1 draw against UNC Asheville on September 16. Gabriel Betancourt notched his first collegiate point in the Radford game with an assist on the first of Jaime Carrillo's two goals and scored his first career goal in the 61st minute against UNC Asheville. Carrillo remains ETSU's leading goal scorer this season with two.

After a strong start, the Blue Hose are winless in their last three, dropping road contests at Georgia Southern and #11 High Point and drawing at Belmont. They are led by veteran midfielder Steven Cordova, a second team All-Big South and Big South All-Tournament selection in 2024, and by Norwegian freshman Aloni Elfu. Both players have two goals and two assists. Presbyterian is a notably clean team, committing the eighth-fewest fouls per game in Division I at 8.25.

This is the seventh meeting between ETSU and PC in men's soccer. ETSU leads the series 3-1-2 after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw last year in Johnson City. The Bucs won the last game in Clinton. The last game in Clinton was won by ETSU, with the Buccaneer back line scoring twice through Crhis McKenna and Yves Tcheuyap to beat 10-man Presbyterian 2-1.
