The Bucs head into the weekend still in search of their first SoCon series win after avoiding the series sweep against Mercer and snapping an eight-game skid with a 5-2 win.

Freshman Whitney Boone has stepped up at the plate in April. She's reached base safely in every game she's played in in the month (five consecutive dating to March 29) and during that span is 5-for-13 with four walks, two RBI, three runs scored, a double and home run. She's reaching base at a remarkable .529 clip throughout that span, and her now-.405 on-base percentage for the season ranks second on the team.

Similarly, Marissa Barnes has pitched well as of late. She carried a perfect game through four innings and a no-hitter through five at Gardner-Webb, and started ETSU's win over Mercer. Her opponent batting average is down to .270, and she has a 4.40 ERA.

UNCG enters the series as the conference leader with a 32-13 record (9-3 SoCon). The Spartans are led by Kalyn Belfield and Grace Loftin at the plate. Belfield boasts the third best batting average in the conference at .414 to go with 12 stolen bases, while Loftin has a .399 average, fourth in the SoCon, along with a league-leading 12 home runs, and 44 RBI.

The Spartans' pitching has been equally dominant, pioneered by Jorde Chartrand and Salem Ward. Chartrand has a 1.94 ERA across 101 IP and an 8-5 record, while Ward has a 2.72 ERA in 110.2 IP, 80 strikeouts and a 12-4 record.
