Women’s Tennis opens SoCon Tournament with a match against No. 7 Samford

Bucs looks to capture their third consecutive tournament title

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 16, 2025) – After winning the last two SoCon Tournaments, the ETSU women's tennis team will be going for its third tournament title in a row as this year's tournament begins Thursday in Chattanooga. ETSU, which earned the No. 2 seed for the tournament, will open with No. 7 seed Samford in the Quarterfinals. First serve between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m. on Thursday from the Champions Club in Chattanooga.

ETSU enters the conference tournament with a record of 12-8 overall and 6-1 in SoCon play. All eight of ETSU's losses this season have been to teams that were or are currently nationally ranked in the ITA poll. The Bucs will come to Chattanooga winners of five of their last six matches and they've rebounded from a 0-3 start to close the season on a 12-5 run.

The Bucs have used the same six players all season long. Five of the Bucs have won 10 or more singles matches in 2025. ETSU has been especially good against SoCon foes winning 28 of the 36 contests in singles. As for doubles, Daniela Rivera and Alessandra Caceres have led the charge with a 14-4 record this spring. The 14 victories for Rivera and Caceres account for over half of ETSU's doubles wins this season (14 of 26).

As mentioned previously, the Bucs have won the last two SoCon Tournament Championships. ETSU has routinely made deep runs in the league tournaments as it has reached the Championship match every season dating back to 2006, which was its first season competing in the Atlantic Sun. If the Bucs can win three matches in three days in Chattanooga, they'll punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for eighth time in the history of the program.
