Five Bucs earn All-SoCon Men’s Tennis Honors

Co-SoCon Regular Season Champions were well-represented on this season’s All-Conference teams

SOCON RELEASE

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 16, 2025) – With the 2025 SoCon Men's Tennis Tournament set to get underway tomorrow morning, the league office unveiled its annual award winners and All-SoCon teams on Wednesday afternoon. Overall, five different Bucs were recognized for their play in 2025 in Peter Kalocsai (First Team Singles, Second Team Doubles), Martin Garcia-Ripoll (Second Team Singles, Doubles), Pedro Cressoni (Second Team Singles), Juan Andres Listo (All-Freshman Team) and Carlos Gonzales (All-Freshman Team).

Kalocsai went 7-9 in singles in 2025. The junior from Budapest, Hungary helped ETSU rebound from a slow start to post a 6-3 record from the start of March until the end of the regular season. In doubles, meanwhile, teamed with Garcia-Ripoll for a 6-11 record. Facing off against the other team's top doubles tandem, the duo from ETSU won three of its last four matches to help the Bucs clinch a share of the SoCon Regular Season Championship.

Garcia-Ripoll played a key part in ETSU's success during the regular season. In his first season in Johnson City, Garcia-Ripoll went 10-5, including a 7-2 mark over the team's last 10 matches. The senior from Spain also went 4-2 against SoCon foes in his first season with the Bucs.

Cressoni finished second on the Bucs with 13 singles victories this spring. Playing mainly from the No. 3 singles spot, Cressoni did not lose a match in conference play and went an impressive 13-2 following back-to-back losses to start his 2025 at power conference opponents, Clemson and Wake Forest. Cressoni, an All-SoCon Freshman team honoree in 2023, was also named the SoCon Player of the Week back on March 18.

Listo made an immediate splash for the Bucs in 2025. In singles, Listo went 11-6 (4-2 in SoCon) and added nine more doubles victories teaming with Francisco Lamas. Those nine doubles wins were the most of any tandem for the Bucs in 2025. Like Cressoni, Listo earned a weekly honor during the regular season back on March 4.

In his first season in Johnson City, Gonzales posted a team-leading 14 singles victories. Playing almost exclusively as an individual in 2025, Gonzales went 14-3 in his first collegiate tennis season. Gonzales closed the regular season on a 13-match winning streak. Gonzales' last loss came on February 18 at Gardner-Webb.

The Bucs will begin their quest for another SoCon Tournament title tomorrow morning when they take on No. 8 seed The Citadel. First serve between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set for 8:30 a.m. from the Champions Club in Chattanooga.
