No. 68 ETSU shuts out Mercer to advance to the SoCon Tournament Championship Match

ETSU has now won 21 consecutive matches

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 17, 2026) – The top-seeded ETSU men's tennis team continued its memorable run with a 4-0 victory over No. 4 Mercer on Friday afternoon in the SoCon Tournament Semifinals. Friday's victory propels the Bucs to the SoCon Tournament Championship on Saturday and boosts their overall record to 21-3 on the 2026 campaign.
 
ETSU gained the early advantage on the Bears thanks to wins from the No. 2 and 3 doubles spots. Peter Kalocsai and Arenui Luethi won their match 6-2 before Juan Listo and James Sim followed with a 6-3 triumph to make the score 1-0 ETSU.
 
As the match progressed to singles, the Bucs maintained control. Juan Listo and Kai Cowcher grew the Buccaneer lead before Carlos Gonzales clinched the victory for the Blue and Gold with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mercer's Alex Aldaz, 6-1, 6-3.

ETSU will play for the SoCon Tournament Championship tomorrow afternoon when it takes on No. 2 seed Samford. Saturday's match is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. from the Champions Club in Chattanooga. The winner of Saturday's match will receive the SoCon's automatic bid into the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.
