Samford upsets ETSU in the SoCon Championship

ETSU’s 21-match winning streak comes to an end in the SoCon Tournament Championship

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 18, 2026) – The top-seeded ETSU men's tennis team saw its run in the SoCon Tournament come to an end on Saturday as No. 2 seed Samford knocked off the Bucs, 4-2. The loss for ETSU moves its record to 21-4.
 
Samford jumped out to an early lead on the Bucs by securing the doubles point. The Bulldogs won the doubles point with 6-3 and 6-4 victories. Oscar Martinez and Martin Vergara did tally a win in No. 1 doubles by a score of 6-4.
 
The Bulldogs tacked on another point to their lead before the Bucs picked up back-to-back victories by Carlos Gonzales (6-2, 6-0) and Kai Cowcher (6-1, 6-2) to tie the score at 2-2. With the score tied, the Bulldogs grinded out a pair of three-set victories to clinch their second consecutive SoCon Tournament Championship.
