Virginia Tech snaps ETSU’s winning streak, 11-4

Grant Gallagher & Cody Miller both homer for ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 15, 2025) – The ETSU baseball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday as Virginia Tech knocked off the Bucs by a score of 11-4. Tuesday's loss moves ETSU's record to 25-10 on the season.

ETSU was limited to just six hits by the Hokie pitching staff. The reigning SoCon Player of the Week Blake Jacklin continued to swing it well for ETSU collecting two of the six hits. ETSU's four runs in the contest came on a pair of two-run home runs by Cody Miller and Grant Gallagher. For Gallagher, it was his 18th of the season which continues to lead all of Division I baseball. Miller, meanwhile, slugged his 12th long ball of the season and only trails Gallagher's 18 and Cooper Torres' 14 on the Bucs' home run list.

The Bucs had nine different pitchers see time on the mound on Tuesday. Landon Crumbley made the start and allowed two runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Later in the game, Tristan Curless and Logan Grass both tossed scoreless innings out of the Buccaneer bullpen.

Virginia Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Bucs after two-and-a-half innings of play thanks to a pair of solo home runs and an RBI double. The Bucs got within a run in the bottom of the third as Miller connected on a two-run shot to make it 3-2 Virginia Tech.

VT, however, continued to have good at-bats against the Buccaneer pitchers scoring one run in the fourth and sixth innings before plating four runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth. After the two-run blast by Miller in the third, the Bucs got another two-run home run by Gallagher in the eighth but that was all the offense the Bucs had on Tuesday as the Hokies finished off the 11-4 win.

The Bucs will have a short turnaround as their next three-game series will begin on Thursday at Mercer. Thursday's and Friday's games are slated to begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch time.
