SOCON RELEASE
Â
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 10, 2025) – The Southern Conference announced on Monday that ETSU's
JD Yakubinis has been named the SoCon Player of the Week for games played between March 3-9. It is not only the first weekly honor that ETSU has earned this season, but it is also Yakubinis's first during his time as a Buc.
Â
Yakubinis played an integral part in ETSU winning two of three games against ACC foe Pittsburgh over the weekend. The Charlotte, N.C. native hit .571 (8-for-14) with two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base against the Panthers. Yakubinis tallied two hits or more in all three games against Pittsburgh, including a career-best four hit outing in Saturday's 8-4 comeback win for the Bucs. With this stellar week, Yakubinis raised his batting average this season from .282 to .358 (76 percentage points). In addition to his work offensively, Yakubinis also saw time at catcher, first base and right field against the Panthers.
Â
Yakubinis and the rest of the Buccaneers will be back in action on Tuesday when they visit No. 4 Georgia. First pitch between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
