Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Feb. 9, 2025) – East Tennessee State University softball lost in the final game of the Camel Stampede, 12-4, to Campbell on Sunday.
The Bucs were led by junior centerfielder
Brylee Mesusan and junior outfielder
Taylor Suchy, who had a pair of hits each. Suchy added a RBI and Mesusan also reached on one of ETSU's seven walks.
The Blue & Gold opened the game up well, as three straight one-out walks loaded the bases for junior catcher
Leinani Lutu and Suchy to bring a pair of runs to the plate. In the bottom of the first, though, Campbell answered with four runs. Freshman pitcher
Catlin Pennington entered to close the inning with ETSU trailing 4-2.
Pennington was the only Buccaneer arm to gain traction in the circle, only allowing one run in the second and third inning each. ETSU got a pair of runs back on a bases-loaded HBP and a sac fly in those innings.
In the fourth, ETSU was unable to bring any runs across and the Camels forced a pitching change. Campbell added three runs in each inning, the latter of which served as a run-rule walk-off for a 12-4 final (5 innings).
Next, ETSU heads to the Pinnacle PC Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, against Rhode Island.
