HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Feb. 23, 2025) – East Tennessee State University softball came up short on Sunday in Huntsville, dropping the last game of the Rocket City Softball Showcase 5-3 to Miami Ohio.
Senior infielder
Cameron Young gave ETSU an early lead with a two-RBI single in the top of the first to score senior infielder
Riley Nayadley and junior outfielder
Brylee Mesusan. Young, Nayadley and Mesusan combined to go 7-10 against the RedHawks.
After going scoreless through the first two innings, Miami scored three in the third inning. The Bucs got one back to tie the game at three in the top of the fourth after senior pinch hitter
Halle Laramie put a ball in play that resulted in a Miami error and allowed junior outfielder
Taylor Suchy to score.
The RedHawks scored again in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run, then added an insurance run via the long ball in the bottom of the fifth. The Buccaneers threatened a rally in the top of the seventh, getting two runners on, but were unable to capitalize, and fell 5-3.
Next, ETSU will head to Kennesaw State's tournament beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, against Saint Louis.
