Just three games over eight days separate ETSU from the holiday break and the start of SoCon play, and the Bucs have their defensive craft down to a science. They rank 19th in the nation in scoring defense (64.4), 31st in field goal percentage defense (38.9%), 83rd in three-point percentage defense (30.1%), 17th in steals (10.6), and 36th in turnovers forced (15.8), leading the SoCon in all five categories.
Cam Morris III and
Brian Taylor II continue to lead the scoring output, but
Blake Barkley is the hot hand with back-to-back 20-point games against Dayton and South Alabama, including his first career double-double against the Jaguars on Friday.
The Governors are at home for just the third time this season and the first time since November 25, having dropped games on the road at Kent State and UTRGV. They are the ASUN's top defensive team allowing just 68.6 points per game but have struggled to find the offense to match. Their 76.3 points per game ranks 208th in Division I and seventh in the ASUN. Grad transfer Collin Parker leads the attack, scoring just under 16 points per game and shooting 48% from the field with 17 made threes.
The Bucs and Govs have met 73 times since January 1949 with ETSU holding a 42-31 lead in the all-time series. They last played on November 30 of last year at Freedom Hall when the Bucs held Peay to 33% shooting and just 27% from three in a 79-57 win. The trip to Clarksville is ETSU's first game at Austin Peay since December 4, 2013, when AJ Merriweather, Rashawn Rembert, and Jalen Riley scored 18 points apiece to lift ETSU to an 80-74 win at the Winfield Dunn Center.
