The Buccaneers are tied with Wofford atop the SoCon standings with four games to play. They are 1-1-4 in their last six games with their lone win being a 2-1 upset of then-#10 UNCG last Saturday at Summers Taylor Stadium where
Noel Poole scored his first career goal to equalize the scores and
Berkay Duman found the net on a spectacular free kick from distance to lift ETSU to a famous win. The Bucs come into their matchup with Furman without the services of a key player, as midfielder
Ulysses Hendriks was sent off early in the second half of a 0-0 draw with Winthrop on Wednesday. Goalkeeper
Emil Holmberg has been tested frequently and shown rapid improvement over the last three weeks, now leading the SoCon in saves per game with 4.20 and ranking third with a .737 save percentage. He earned his first career shutout in the draw with Winthrop on Wednesday.
The Paladins are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' top 25 poll and are ranked 16th in the Top Drawer Soccer top 25. They are unbeaten in their last four games and opened SoCon play with a 1-1 draw at Mercer last week. Junior Diego Hernandez is enjoying a breakout campaign, leading Furman 17th-ranked scoring offense in both goals (6) and assists (5) and ranking second in the SoCon in both categories.
This is the 22nd meeting between ETSU and Furman in men's soccer. The Bucs are 4-11-6 against Furman, including a loss in last year's SoCon tournament championship game in Johnson City. ETSU is 2-5-3 at Furman all-time, winning the last matchup 2-0 thanks to goals from Kieran Richards and Tarik Pannholzer and an eight-save shutout from Cole Hunter.
