LEXINGTON, Va. (Nov. 1, 2025) - There is a first time for everything.
The ETSU men's soccer team fell 2-1 to VMI on Saturday at Patchin Field in Lexington, falling behind just before halftime and losing to VMI for the first time in 18 meetings.
The Keydets (3-11-3, 1-4-0) got on the board with Ricky Perez's first goal of the season in the 43rd minute and added to it just after halftime with Jack Yough's third of the year in the 51st. Sergio Baguena scored his third goal in as many games in the 87th, but the Buccaneers (2-8-4, 2-3-0) could not find an equalizer as VMI snapped an 83 game conference losing streak dating back to their return to the SoCon in 2014.
Despite the loss, ETSU can still be the number three seed in the 2025 SoCon Men's Soccer Championship if Mercer defeats UNCG in Greensboro tonight, in which case they will play VMI again in the first round. A UNCG win or a draw will have the Buccaneers fourth and pit them against Wofford.
