Men’s Tennis opens 2025 schedule at Clemson and Wake Forest

ETSU faces a pair of Power Conference teams to start spring slate

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 10, 2025) – The ETSU men's tennis team will open its 2025 schedule this weekend with matches at Clemson on Saturday and at No. 4 Wake Forest on Sunday. First serve between the Buccaneers and Tigers is set for Noon, while Sunday's tilt against the Demon Deacons is slated to get underway at 3 p.m.

ETSU is coming off a season where it captured both the SoCon Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Overall, the Bucs went 13-10 last season, including a perfect 7-0 in league play. Furthermore, the Blue and Gold went a perfect 10-0 against teams from the SoCon with the conference tournament results included.

The Bucs will return four players from last season's team, including Francisco Lamas who earned All-SoCon Second Team honors in doubles in 2024. Pedro Cressoni, Peter Kalocsai and James Sim also return for the Bucs. ETSU did bring in three newcomers in the offseason. Two of the three are freshmen in Carlos Gonzales and Juan Andres Listo, while the third is a transfer from Lamar, Martin Garcia-Ripoll.

Entering the spring season, the Bucs competed in six tournaments in the fall. Listo, Cressoni and Garcia-Ripoll all had seven wins in singles action, while Garcia-Ripoll and Lamas teamed up for nine doubles victories in the fall.

Clemson is coming off a 14-14 season in 2024. The Tigers, who went 4-8 in ACC play last spring, do have a trio of players that were nationally ranked by the ITA at the end of the fall season. Noa Vukadin leads this group checking in at No. 69 with a 11-6 record. Fellow Tigers Wissam Abderrahman (No. 92) and Maxwell Smith (No. 96) also enter the spring campaign with a national ranking.

In 2024, Wake Forest went 31-7 on the season and reached the national semifinals for the first time since 2019. Dhakshineswar Suresh is Wake Forest's top ranked singles player (No. 7) entering the spring season. Additionally, the Demon Deacons have a pair of doubles teams that rank among the top 10 nationally.

The Bucs are 1-5 all-time against Clemson with the lone win for ETSU coming in 2020, 4-1. Wake Forest, meanwhile, is 28-2 all-time against the Bucs. ETSU knocked off the Demon Deacons in back-to-back years in 1992 and 1993.
