Howard, Gray post top-10 finishes in Blacksburg

Six Bucs finish in top-15 at Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 20, 2024) – Led by top-10 finishes from Rebekah Howard and Bonita Gray, the ETSU women's cross country team posted a runner-up finish on Friday at the Hokie Invitational, held at Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.

Facing a slick and rigorous 6K course, Howard and Gray both posted their top collegiate finishes in Blacksburg. Howard, the first non-Virginia Tech runner to finish, crossed the line in 22:03.2, while Gray ended in 22:37.0.

As a team, ETSU – who had six runners finish in the top-15 – finished runner-up to host Virginia Tech with 45 points.

Deena Ludtke (11th, 22:46.0), Sophie Beach (12th, 22:48.8), Ansley Archuleta (14th, 23:15.8) and Camryn Johnson (15th, 23:27.4) all finished in the top-15 for the Blue & Gold. Those all marked collegiate best placings for the group of Bucs, including Ludtke who was racing her second-ever collegiate race.

Sharon Chepchirchir of Virginia Tech won the race with a time of 20:55.4.

The Bucs will return to the course on Oct. 5 when ETSU heads to Kentucky for the Live in Lou Classic.
