Football wraps up second scrimmage of fall camp

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 17, 2024) – The ETSU football team wrapped up its second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday afternoon at Bank of Tennessee Field at William B. Greene Stadium.

Just like in the first scrimmage, the Buccaneer offense and defense matched up against each other on Saturday. After the defense controlled most of the action a week ago, the offense bounced back this go-around.

The Buccaneer offense totaled 328 yards on the day with two rushing touchdowns and two more scores through the air. ETSU totaled 25 first downs and averaged 4.1 yards per play. Furthermore, the Bucs went 8-for-18 on third downs and went 3-for-4 on fourth down. Ewan Johnson also went 2-for-2 in field goals from 37 yards and 47 yards.

Six different ETSU quarterbacks saw action on Saturday and combined to go for 23-for-35 and two touchdowns. Jaylen King and Gino English accounted for the passing touchdowns to AJ Johnson and Hakeem Meggett, respectively. Freshman Baylor Hayes attempted a team-high 11 passes on the day and used his legs to find the endzone as well.

On the ground, the Bucs totaled 140 yards on 45 attempts. Trey Foster led the ETSU running backs with 35 yards on six tries. King scrambled for 22 yards and had the longest run of the day (15 yards). In addition to the touchdown by Hayes, Adrian Johnson got into the endzone for the second straight scrimmage as he hit pay dirt from two yards out. Overall, Devin Ingram led ETSU in total yards with 41 (29 rushing, 12 receiving).

Defensively, the top two tacklers were Ray Coney and Dre Delinois with seven a piece. Coney also picked up one of the defense's five sacks on the day. Bryson Horney, Brandon Wilson and Brenden LeBlanc also tallied sacks on the day. Carlton Horine picked up the defense's lone interception on Saturday. The defense also broke up five passes and had eight tackles for loss.

ETSU will open the 2024 season at Appalachian State on August 31. ETSU's home opener is set for September 7 vs. UVA Wise. Season tickets for the 2024 season are on sale now. Visit etsutickets.com for more information and/or to purchase today.
