SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 11, 2024) – The ETSU baseball team bounced back in a big way on Saturday afternoon with a 15-8 win over Wofford.
Cameron Sisneros led the charge for the Bucs in the win slugging a pair of home runs and matching a single game program record with eight RBI in the contest. With Saturday's win, the Bucs move to 32-16 overall and 13-7 in SoCon action.
With his eight RBI on Saturday, Sisneros has brought his season RBI total to 75. He is not only the third Buc to ever drive in 70 or more runs in a season but he also now has driven in the second-most runs in a season by an ETSU player trailing only Paul Hoilman's 84 RBI in 2010.
Sisneros was not the only Buc to have a big day at the plate. All nine members of ETSU's starting lineup recorded at least one hit. Furthermore, the bottom third of ETSU's order came up big. Combined the trio of
Blake Jacklin,
Ashton King and
Ryan McCarthy combined to go 6-for-12 with eight runs scored, five RBI, and a pair of home runs.
The Bucs also worked six walks against Terrier pitchers, which brought their season total to 266. The 266 walks for the Bucs breaks the single-season record for the team passing the previous record of 263 set back in 1981.
ETSU used just three pitchers in the win.
Jace Hyde picked up his fourth win in as many appearances as he tossed a career-high seven innings. Hyde, who is now 7-3 on the season, five runs on nine hits and struck out four on Saturday.
Andrew Ronne and
Kenny Keller worked out of the Buccaneer bullpen to help finish off the win for ETSU.
All ETSU's runs came in multi-run frames. The Bucs scored two in the first, three in the fourth, four in the fifth, two in the eighth and four more in the ninth inning to finish with 15 runs. The 15-run outburst marks the first time that the Bucs have scored 15 or more runs in a game since the first series of the season against Lafayette.
Fueling the 15-run outburst in part was four home runs. Sisneros slugged two (one two-run, one grand slam), while the duo of Jacklin (solo) and McCarthy (three-run) both homered in the victory as well.
On the mound, Hyde kept the Wofford's bats in check for the most part. Outside of the fifth inning where the Terriers scored four times, Hyde held Wofford's offense to one run in his other six innings of work. Hyde is now 7-3 this season.
ETSU and Wofford will close out their series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch for the series finale is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
