CLEVELAND, Tenn. (April 6, 2024) – The ETSU men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Flames Invitational on Saturday with the Buccaneers posting five podium finishes from the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
After totaling two gold medal performances on Friday, the Blue & Gold finished the weekend with 10 podium finishes.
The women's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams collected bronze medals on Saturday, while
Hannah Burkhart (400m),
Gabby Walker (100m) and
Eliza Ruch (long jump) also finished third in their respective events on the final day.
Burkhart, Walker and
Emily Lindsey each earned two medals on Saturday with Burkhart running a leg in the 4x400m relay that registered a time of 3:57.33. Burkhart was joined by Lindsey,
McKenna Boykin and
Meg Lance in the 4x400m. Burkhart also finished third in the 400m with an outdoor personal best time of 57.91. Walker, who ran a personal best 12.18 in the 100m, also ran a leg in the 4x100m that finished in 48.26. Joining Walker in the 4x100 was Lindsey,
Devon Babcock and
Leslie Gansore.
Gansore and Babcock also went fourth and fifth in 100m. The Buccaneer duo both set personal bests in the event with Gansore clocking in at 12.26 and Babcock at 12.46.
Ruch celebrated her first collegiate podium by placing third in the long jump with a mark of 5.32m. The Blue & Gold took home three of the top six spots in the event with
Tya Blake finishing fifth (5.10m) and
Brianna Baker placing sixth (5.07m).
On the men's side,
Miguel Parrilla just missed the podium in the 800m as he finished fourth with a time of 1:50.87. In the women's steeplechase
Ansley Archuleta also had a fourth-place finish with a time of 11:25.15.
"We had a solid second day at the Lee Fast Track Invitational," said ETSU Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
George Watts. "I was especially pleased with the sprints, where we had quite a few personal bests and/or podium finishes. We had five of the top 10 in the women's 100m, led by
Gabby Walker. That was fun to watch. The 4x100m relay team has a chance to do well. It's a young team, but once they figure out their handoffs, they can run significantly faster.
Hannah Burkhart had a good day in the 400m and had an even better 4x400m relay leadoff. We had three in the finals of the long jump, where we made progress. Most of the attempts were into a headwind but we were competitive. The women running the steeplechase had a good race in some breezy conditions.
Camryn Johnson ran a personal best and
Ansley Archuleta just missed hers after setting a PB the night before in the 1500m. The 800m men were competitive in their sections led by Miguel's fourth place finish. Although it was wind aided,
Makai Williams had a solid 100m and is a few steps away from being a potential finalist in the event at the conference championship."
The Bucs are back on the track next weekend as ETSU heads to North Carolina for the Asheville Bulldog Invite, set for Saturday, April 13.
