Bucs homer twice in a 5-2 win over Radford

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 17, 2024) – Cameron Sisneros and Blake Jacklin both hit home runs to help fuel the ETSU baseball team to a 5-2 win over Radford on Wednesday evening at Thomas Stadium. With Wednesday's victory over the Highlanders, the Bucs improve to 22-12 overall and 17-5 at home this season.

In addition to the home runs by Sisneros and Jacklin, Noah Gent also had a good day at the plate for the Bucs. Gent went 2-for-3 and drove in two of ETSU's five runs on the night. Gent has now knocked in at least one run in 10 straight games and has driven in 19 runs total during that stretch. Jackson Green drove in a run with one of the Bucs' three doubles, while Nick Iannantone (1-3 with a walk) and Cody Miller (1-for-2 with a walk) also reached base twice in the contest with a hit and a walk, respectively.

The Buccaneers used eight different pitchers on Wednesday. Kenny Keller made his first start as a Buc and allowed one run on one hit in his lone inning of work. Six other Bulldog relievers had scoreless appearances on the day. Tyler Fetterman notched his first career win stranding a baserunner and striking out three in 1.1 innings of work. Andrew Cotten, Walker Trusley, Brian Crooms and Derek McCarley all logged scoreless appearances for the Bucs as well.

Radford wasted little time in scoring the first run of Wednesday's game. With one out in the top of the first, Conner Butler slugged a solo home run to give the Highlanders the 1-0 lead. However, that lead was short-lived as Gent brought Iannantone around to score with a single to knot the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

ETSU managed to get its first lead of the night in the third. Gent drove in Sisneros with another single to make the score 2-1 Bucs. Green brought Miller in to score a batter later with a double to give the Bucs a two-run lead to protect, 3-1.

Jacklin and Sisneros hit their home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. For Sisneros, it is his team-leading 13th home run of the season and his fifth in the last four games. Jacklin, meanwhile, homered for the first time since March 13 vs. Harvard when he drove in a season-high five runs in another Buccaneer victory.

Both pitching staffs put up zeroes in the sixth and seventh innings before Radford closed the gap with a run in the eighth to make the score 5-2. With Radford perhaps building some momentum, ETSU handed the ball to McCarley for the rest of the way. McCarley retired six of the seven batters he faced to finish off ETSU's fourth straight win over Radford, 5-2.

ETSU will be back in action this weekend with a three-game weekend series at Purdue. The series between the Bucs and Boilermakers is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
