Baseball finishes out road swing at UNC Asheville on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (April 1, 2024) – The ETSU baseball team will close out a seven-game road swing through North Carolina on Tuesday when it visits UNC Asheville. First pitch between the Buccaneers and Bulldogs is set for 5 p.m. on ESPN+

Last Time Out – The Bucs picked up a 4-3 win on the road at UNC Greensboro on Saturday. With Saturday's win, the Bucs improve to 17-9 overall and 3-3 in SoCon action.
 
Fine outing by a freshman – A key in ETSU's win over UNCG on Saturday was the outing turned in by freshman Michael Harpster. Harpster threw a career-high eight innings, allowed two runs on six hits to go with five strikeouts. Harpster picked up his fourth win of the season and improved his record to 4-1. Furthermore, the eight-inning start by Harpster was the longest by a Buccaneer pitcher this season.
 
Incredible Month by IannantoneNick Iannantone continues to be a force at the top of the Buccaneers' lineup. Overall, Iannantone is batting .442 with two home runs, 22 RBI, an on-base percentage of .556 and leads ETSU with 13 multi-hit games. His on-base percentage ranks eighth in Division I baseball, while his batting average is 13th. Iannantone was especially good in the month of March as he hit .493 and he reached base at a .602 clip. He also brings a 10-game hitting streak and a 12-game reached base streak.
 
Where Sisneros Sits on the National Stat Lists – First baseman Cameron Sisneros has continued to be one of the most productive players in the country. Sisneros ranks 11th nationally with 40 RBI and leads the Bucs in walks (27), slugging percentage (.695), doubles (11) and home runs (6). Additionally, Sisneros is the seventh-hardest hitter to strike out as he gone down on strikes just five times in 95 at-bats.
 
Bucs Being on Base – Entering play on Tuesday, ETSU has five players that have reached base streaks of 12 or more games. Sisneros leads the way with 26 followed by Cody Miller (21), Tommy Barth (19), Noah Gent (14) and Iannantone (12).
 
Bucs against the Big South – ETSU will face Big South foes UNC Asheville and Radford twice each this season. Against the current members of the Big South, the Bucs hold a 119-81 record (.595 winning percentage).  
 
About UNC Asheville – UNC Asheville enters Tuesday's matchup with ETSU with an overall record of 11-15. The Bulldogs have fared much better playing in Asheville compared to on the road. At home, Asheville is 11-6 compared to a 0-9 mark in road games. A player to watch for UNC Asheville is Robbie Burnett. Burnett, who was the Big South's Preseason Player of the Year, is hitting .304 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI to go with 10 stolen bases. The 10 home runs by Burnett account for over a third of Asheville's home runs this spring.  

Series History vs. UNC Asheville – Tuesday will be the 69th all-time meeting between the Bucs and Bulldogs. ETSU has won 41 of the previous 67 matchups. These two programs split the two matchups last season with each team winning on their respective home field. However, ETSU has won 10 of the last 11 games in the series.
