Women’s Tennis hits the road for matches at Mercer and Chattanooga

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 20, 2024) – The ETSU women's tennis team will play its final two road matches of the regular season this week as it faces Mercer on Thursday and Chattanooga on Saturday. Thursday's match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., while Saturday's is set to get underway at 10 a.m.

ETSU is coming off a 4-1 loss on the road at No. 28 FIU last Friday. With that loss, the Buccaneers are 8-6 on the spring season. Since the team's last match, a couple of Buccaneers earned some awards for their work both on and off the court. Daniela Rivera was named the SoCon Player of the Month for February, while Ralitsa Alexandrova was named the SoCon Player of the Week and SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week over the past couple of days.

Mercer enters Thursday's match with ETSU sporting an 11-4 overall record. The Bears, like ETSU, are unbeaten so far in SoCon play (2-0). Mercer will bring a four-match winning streak into Thursday's tilt with the Bucs. The Bears' last loss came on March 3 at nationally-ranked Florida State.

Chattanooga is currently a .500 team both overall (7-7) and in conference play (1-1). The Mocs have won three of their last four matches entering this week's play. Furthermore, three of Chattanooga's losses this spring have been by close 4-3 scores to North Alabama, UNC Asheville, and Lipscomb.

Dating back to 2006, ETSU has not lost a match to Mercer. The Bucs are 22-0 against the Bears in that time span, which includes a 6-0 record in Macon. As for the series against Chattanooga, the Mocs hold the all-time edge winning 28 of the 41 matchups. However, ETSU has won eight of the last nine matches between these two programs.
