JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 2, 2024) – Winners of five of their last six matches, the ETSU women's tennis team will play in back-to-back road matches on Sunday and Monday. ETSU will face off against No. 10 NC State on Sunday at 4 p.m. before traveling to take on Radford on Monday at 2 p.m.
Entering Sunday's match with the Wolfpack, the Bucs have won four straight matches against UNC Greensboro, Lipscomb, UNC Greensboro, and Western Carolina. ETSU, which is 5-4 overall, dropped just one match in February and that was to No. 19 Tennessee. By virtue of their recent stellar play, ETSU was ranked No. 75 in the latest ITA rankings. It marks the third consecutive season that the Bucs have been nationally-ranked.
The tenth-ranked Wolfpack are 10-3 on the season and are a perfect 7-0 at home. NC State is coming off back-to-back wins over ECU and Notre Dame. NC State has gotten up to as high as No. 5 in the national polls this spring.
Radford, meanwhile, enters this weekend with a 2-7 record. The Highlanders have picked up wins over North Carolina Central and Bluefield State this spring. A player to watch for Radford is Julia Abrams. Abrams has been named the Big South Player of the Week twice this season.
NC State is 8-0 all-time against the Bucs. Sunday's match between these two programs will mark the third straight year that the Bucs and Wolfpack have clashed. Against Radford, the Buccaneers are 7-1. ETSU knocked off the Highlanders by a 6-1 score last season.
